URSA Insulation recently announced that it will be opening a plant in the UK. The insulation company that specialises in the manufacture of glass wool has scheduled the opening of the plant for the second half of 2009. It is estimated that the factory will employ about 130 people; short-listed locations for the plant are Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The move coincides with the growth of the glass wool market in the UK. It ranks very highly as an environmentally friendly insulator - their end application far outweighs the energy required for their production and installation. Furthermore, as sustainability moves up the social and political agenda, the use of this form of insulation looks set to increase still further.
URSA Insulation is part of the Madrid-based Grupo Uralita. "The glass wool market in the UK has shown a very strong development in recent years and we believe that this trend will continue in the future," says Javier Serratosa, Chairman of the Board of Grupo Uralita. "This dynamic growth of the insulation materials market, and glass wool in particular, is fuelled by the continuing commitment of the UK government to achieve substantial improvement in energy savings in buildings. Grupo Uralita has decided to construct new production facilities in the UK in order to position itself as a key player in this market, which we regard as a model for other markets in continental Europe."
