Odd timing given that the SDC (the government's own sustainability watchdog) hasn't yet finished its extensive report on the likely outcomes of creating a barrage on the Severn. The report considers alternatives such as tidal lagoons and tidal fences. Or maybe not so odd, remembering that this is the same watchdog that made such a powerful case against reviving the UK nuclear industry. No teeth, this dog.

But it'll be something nice for Blair, to be able to point at the proposed barrage and say, "see I told you I was in favour of renewable energy. It's not my fault Welsh hippies are bogging down the process with objections."
