Plans were announced last week to turn a 125-acre park in south Essex into a regional tourist centre. The £5m of work at the Wat Tyler Country Park in Pitsea has an environmental bent. A former explosives factory on the site will be turned into a interpretation centre and will be a "carbon neutral" building. There will also be an eco-garden demonstrating how visitors can use their gardens to help the environment. It is part funded by the East of England Development Agency. Its head of implementation Tony Bray said: "This project is an important addition to the region's infrastructure network."
