The green stuff in the housing green paper

Quick trawl through yesterday's housing green paper for sustainable stuff. There's lots, including a consultation that the Department of Communities and Local Government has started on the Code for Sustainable Homes, a competition launched to design the five new Eco-towns the Government plans (there's a prospectus on this available), a joint statement with DEFRA on water efficiency in new housing and Building a Greener Future "our strategy and timetable for achieving zero-carbon homes by 2016"

With regard to the Code the DCLG is asking for views on:

making a rating against the Code mandatory for new homes

the connection between the Code and Energy Performance Certificates

using Home Information Packs (HIPs) as the mechanism for making the Code rating available to prospective buyers

when we should update the Code

the future content of the Code, including introducing minimum standards for Lifetime Homes.
